Saturday 28th january it's pullingtime at the indoor pull held at Zwolle. Popeye will compete in the afternoon session in 4,5 ton modified class and if Popeye stays in one piece 3,5 ton class in the evening session will also be attended.
This week Popeye will be finished for the event and hopefully the spinach of last year is still good enough, because there's no new spinach present at the moment.
We're proud to announce that 2 new sponsors have been added:

Popeye tractorpulling team is registered for the 2012 competition. It was planned to register for the Eurocup in 2012, but this didn't happen due to several reasons. The newly introduced 4.0 ton unlimited class, which will replace the 4,5 ton class in Holland, was an option. But the team didn't see many chances/challenges to rebuild Popeye for this class. Popeye's fanclub is updated with the latest info about registration of Popeye, some while ago.
Recently the 2011 season is added to our history part 3 on this website. And the homepage has changed a bit. Since 2003 it changed even more...

Last
past weeks the new intakemanifolds have been equipped with the parts
which will hold the nozzle's. These parts had been made by Roland in
2009, and last week he made the other 12, that we came short.
At
the moment 6 intakemanifolds have been equipped with these parts. Those
intakemanifolds are the ones that were originally supposed to be used
with the turbochargers, but as the turbochargers won't be used for now,
the manifolds can and will be used.
More pictures from the workshop.

The 2011 season is ended with the pull at Bakel. See our video of the tractorpull at Bakel.
After the event at Bakel the team attended a pulling event at Boerdonk.
Now the season is ended, Popeye is back in the workshop again and the transportcombination is unloaded. The first preperations for the next season already started.
Popeye tractorpulling team is planning to compete in the Eurocup competition next season. This is a serie of several pulling events all across Europe. To compete in this competition a team has to be registered somewhere in Europe. Where Popeye will be registered, or which class, next season is uncertain at this moment, because there are still some discussions about classes, which will compete in the NTTO circuit, next season.
In a recent mail (end September), the competitors were asked in which classes they would compete next season, just to get an idea of how many competitors are interested in each class. Plans are to quit the 4,5 ton class and get a 2,5 ton class in the A division. Also a new 4 ton unlimited class is planned. This one would only compete at 3 events, as they are planning, to keep it exclusive.
At this moment people are still working on the plans for the next season, therefor the above is all uncertain and it could well turn out different as described above. Because the plans and limitations in the Eurocup competition are certain at the moment, Popeye is planning to compete in this competition, which might be a better choice for Popeye.
Meanwhile the team is working to get Popeye ready for the next season.
New intakemanifolds, which can host 3 nopzzle's per cilinder are being welded. Also several changes to the top Allison engine are wished and planned. Check back this site for more info later on.

Last weekend the European championships tractorpulling have been held at Finland. If you win this one event, you're the new champion for that year. Popeye was also invited for the event, but due to time and the financial part of the trip to- and from Finland the team had to decide to stay home. Congratulations to the new champions.
Coming weekend Popeye tractorpulling team will attend the competition at Bakel. On saturday 10th September Popeye will drive in both 4,5- and 3,5 ton class. This will be the last tractorpull for 2011. More info regarding Bakel on their website.

As you might have noticed on the pulling schedule, several pulling reports have been added of the events that Popeye attended. Sunday 21st August Popeye tractorpulling team will be attending the event Heels & wheels at Eindhoven. Also the organisation of tractorpulling Bakel and tractorpulling team Bad boy's toy will be attending this event.
Below a flyer of "Heels & wheels".
A day before the "Heels & wheels" event, Popeye tractorpulling team will be competing at the tractorpull at Bouconville (Fr). Popeye will be competing in 4,5 ton class, which is scheduled in the late evening. When the late- night-pull is over, the team will have to travel over night to get to Eindhoven.

A busy weekend for Popeye tractorpulling team. Which means that soon new reports will be available on this website. Next weekend Popeye will be attending the tractorpulling event at Great Eccleston (GB)...

Several pages are updated. Our pull report of the pull at Putten is completed with pictures and video's. Also the page about rebuilding the trailer got an update, also with new pictures. And below the damage of Popeye is decribed, which was the result of a day pulling at Putten.
Today Popeye is attending a market at Baarschot. Last week Popeye's diffrential is replaced, because it broke at Putten. Also a new gearset is placed in the rearaxle and the usual maintainance is done to Popeye.

Popeye tractorpulling team will not attend the tractorpull at Emmeloord and perhaps more.
Transportation of Popeye isn't the problem, diffrent people are willing to do so... The team is now getting their own transportation ready for use somewhere in this season. This still needs more time and therefor some pulls will have to be cancelled. If the team would start pulling, their transportation will still not be in use this season, because of the time consumption to keep Popeye going during a season.

All parts for the crossbox and ignitions are at the workshop. Today it all needs to be assembled. It's a good thing we don't have to compete at Ahoy in the afternoon, tommorow. It leaves some extra time.

Last
Saturday, February 19 was the first Popeye's fan clubday. With over 30
submissions it was pretty busy. Because the workshop was quite cleaned
up the past period, most of the day was inside the workshop. From 12.00
hours in the workshop it began with coffee and pastries. After the
first bottles of Dommelsch beer went through, it started with the
"active" program which consisted of several old Dutch games, with our
own inspiration to them. The "tractor powered" maze game was a unique
game.
Several games were carried out with 2 patio wood-burning stoves for a cozy place to warm up in between, drink and chat.
Around
the clock of 18.00 hours the fries man arrived and everybody
could
order his / her food. There was much choice and the fries man
was
quite busy. The fries tasted good and the snacks, too. The
burgers
were eagerly seized ...
After
everyone had enjoyed the food, the moisture content in the body was
brought to an exceptable level.
Thea van Alphen gave a tour in the house and cellar where more than 400-500 a variety of prizes are exhibited. Back in the workshop was very enjoyable by drink, catch up and a game with nails. There were also several photo-books from ancient times to see and they were therefore carefully examined.
When people went home, chalk drawings of Popeye, Popeye fanclub decals and new Popeye posters were ready to be included.
All in all it was a nice, pleasant day and evening that is
sure to be repeated.
Picturealbum of the fan club can be viewed here.
The next time you want to be present at the fanclubday? And / or want the latest comprehensive news regularly in your mailbox? Then register for Popeye's fanclub.
Popeye...
As
you may have read above, there are new Popeye posters, which will be
available during pulling events. There is also cleaned more in the
workshop / warehouse and there are some items sold. There are some ALU
and stainless steel tanks sold, which had been removed. The PSES data
logger, which hasn't been used more than 5 years, has found a new
owner. Popeye tractorpulling team didn't use this data logger for over
5 years, but the team is looking for a trouble free datalog system.
Here a picture overview of what is currently
for sale.
March
12th, it's the indoor competition at Ahoy and Popeye is far from
ready yet. The gears for the crossbox have arrived and are
then
provided with modifications for smoother operation. Bearings for
crossbox must still arrive and after the crossbox is reassembled it can
be mounted.
Of the top Allison engine the MSD spark plug wires have been replaced by ones that are best suited for the magneto ignitions used. MSD spark plug wires have a resistance of 40-50 ohms / foot (new), the plug wires that are to be used have a resistance of 0 ohms / foot. Only the top Allison engine was equipped with MSD wires and their suppression of RFI doesn't apply to our magneto ignitions.
Roland
last year created a new gearbox for the ignitions on one engine. This
works very well and therefore he now makes some more for the other
engines and some spare ones. The plastic gears have yet to be made and
the bearings for the gearboxes are not at the workshop. With
everything at the workshop (hopefully this week before the pull),
everything must be assembled and then installed, and the ignitions have
to be adjusted properly. If Popeye is equipped with those new ignition
drive units at Ahoy is therefor questionable. Fact is that because of
carnival a few days more are available for the hobby. Problem is that
the gears for both ignition drive units and crossbox were told to
arrive on wednesday...
More news soon.

Some time ago, Laurens Verwoerd decided to stop with his activities in the team. This decision was hard for him to make, but he had his reasons for it.
Laurens helped the team out during the winterstops on saturdays. In the morning he made the trip to Bladel and went home in the evening. The travelling distance was the reason he could only come to Bladel on saturdays.
The
team wasn't big and currently the team gets some help from
1-2 guys which both don't have to travel a long distance.
It's not a secret that the team's workshop isn't as clean as a surgery room, but that's why it's called a workshop. Since a week the team started with cleaning up the workshop. Which was neccesary. We can see the floor again and the workingbenches can be used again.
The trailer is currently at the painter and since the new gears for the crossbox haven't arrived yet, the team continues cleaning the workshop.
More pictures of the workshop can be found here.

As you might have seen in our pull report of Zwolle, the crossbox of the 2 front Allison engines broke. This crossbox is basically a giant box with 2 incoming shafts (from the engines), 1 outgoing shaft and in between a lot of special made gears. The engines turn in opposite direction.
With
taking the oil out of the crossbox, some teeth came out with the oil.
This often indicates that there's some sort of problem;-) After the
crossbox was removed from the tractor it was disassembled to take a
look at the damage.
Some gears are missing all teeth, some gears
are missing a couple of teeth and all other gears are damaged, too. All
gears will be replaced.
Currently new gears are ordered at True gear & spline. While they are made and send over, Popeye will get some more attention.

Next
week the first indoorpull
will take place.
Popeye is almost ready for this event. Damage of last pulling event is
repaired and Popeye is now equipped with a high back racing seat. This
racing seat replaced the "lawnmower" seat. Because of the bigger
dimensions of the new racing seat some modifications had to be made to
both throttle- and gearshift handle. The replacement of the seat and
the modifications done, resulted in a tractor which is now approx. 4 kg
lighter.
NTTO administration thinks to make a decision begin February about the 2012 season. It's already decided that light modifieds (2,5 ton modified) will compete at the highest level and that competitors can only register in 1 division.
For 2011 there are already some
changes in terms of race classification. Not all six classes will be
run in all competitions, which resulted that there are three
events with not both modified classes.

The winterbreak is shortening, lots of teams use this to make modifications to their material (tractor, truck, workshop). Popeye tractorpulling team is busy rebuilding their trailer.
Besides all the pullingparties there's still some time left for serious general meetings. Recently Popeye tractorpulling team attended a general drivers meeting of the NTTO.

In 2011, A-division, both 3,5- and 4,5 ton modified will continue. Popeye will compete in 2011 within NTTO A-division. For 2012 NTTO has got some major changes in the program (which are not final yet). Nothing is permanent and hopefully soon there'll be more clear about it.
